4 Diet Mistakes You’re Making That Only Create More Belly Fat

4. All calories are not created equal

This last one is actually true. Our body processes different types of food differently, as we burn 20-30 percent of all consumed ‘protein’ calories, 6 percent of all ‘carb’ calories, and 3 percent of all ‘fat’ calories in the digestion process.

You should focus on protein, as it is burned the quickest, even without exercising.

This process is known as the Thermal Effect of Food (TEF). For instance, if you ate 1000 calories of chicken and 1000 calories of ice-cream,  you would gain more weight with ice-cream, since only 3 percent of the fat from the ice cream would burn in the digestion process, compared to the 20-30 percent of the protein in chicken.
