Upcycled Cork Board

I started by sorting my corks to find ones that are a similar height so the board is mostly even. You can also trim your corks down or cut your corks in half! After finding corks that were a similar height, I filled up my board. I originally thought I was going to paint some corks blue and gold but after seeing it all laid out, I changed my plan and decided I liked the idea of alternating between natural, wine stained, and gold corks. So, I divided my corks into thirds so I painted enough gold.

Now, we paint! Start by painting the base of the cork board. I used gold spray paint on my wooden circle base. Then start painting your corks. This part is optional! You can leave the corks as it or add whatever paint colors you’d like.

Once all the paint dries, it’s time to glue the corks on. I wanted to make sure everything lined up and fit before gluing so I lined my corks up ring by ring around my circle base in a pattern of gold cork, wine stained cork, and natural cork. Then I glued them on after I lined them up. I just placed a little blob of hot glue on the bottom of the cork and attached it directly to the board.

Once it’s completely filled up, it’s time to secure your rope around it! I used a thick twine from the dollar tree. I wrapped it around the edges of my cork board twice and tied a knot at the top with enough room so you’ll be able to hang it. When you secure the rope, place some hot glue between the cork and rope to keep it secure!

We’re just about done! Time to add in the hooks. I used 1in gold hooks by National Hardware. I lined up the corks and spaced them out to where I wanted them. Then, I pressed the hooks directly into a cork and rotated them in to screw in.

And that’s it! Your cork board is ready for you to hang up your keys and personalize with whatever else you’d like to tack on it. I hope you enjoyed this upcycled DIY, cheers!
