Ingredients
- 2 pounds great northern beans , dry
- 6 cups water
- 1-½ pounds ham hock
- salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large carrot sliced or chopped
- 1 large celery stalk sliced or chopped
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions

Add all ingredients to a large slow cooker.

Cook on high 4-5 hours or low 7-8 hours.

Remove ham hock to cool a bit. Remove ham bits and add them back to the slow cooker.

Stir the ingredients, taste, and add salt if needed. Serve hot with corn bread or biscuits.
