Dining Table Makeover

Sanding process.I start sanding with my sanding machine. While I was working with my sanding machine i noticed that the process went very slow. I tried with a regular sanding paper and the work went faster. Don’t feel that the sanding machine gonna do a better work. Your muscles might be much better. How to use sanding paper: i started with A medium 80-120 to remove the stain.Then a fine 150-180 before finishing. Finally the very fine 220-250 between stains. That’s means, when you finish staining and you feel its not absolutely smooth. Sand with the very fine paper until obtaining the desired lever of smoothness. I know that’s seems very hard and long process, but believe me, ones you will see the result You’ll forget everything and you’ll be very proud of your stunning dining table.

Wiping.Very important to wipe Down the excess of dust coming from sanding. Also, this way you can see how much you are sandIng and where you have to sand more or less.

Sanding.The most challenging part to sand, were the Legs. Lots of curves and details it has to be completely sand. It Is a time consuming work, but I considered that as a therapeutic Activity.

Table After Sanding it.Honestly, the table looks very clean and bright like this. Something in my head was telling me to leave it like that. But, no, i can’t do that? Right?!!let’s go to the next step:

Staining process.i used this stain: Mission oak color. Because I wanted to be more golden color then brown or red.

Put all pieces together.With a piece of cotton cloth, i start staining it very gently. Put a little amount of saint of the cloth and start padding and wiping to cover the surface. I was applying very thin layer to not go dark . Let it dry some hours, or follow the instructions on the can. Very important to add the Table leave if there is any, so you can get the same level of sanding and color on it.

Finishing process.This step is the final step. I used a semi-gloss Polyurethane. “Oil-based polyurethane is better for a tabletop than the water-based version. Oil-based polyurethane dries harder and creates an impenetrable surface that protects the woodagainst moisture and food stains. An oil-based coat of polyurethane will last longer than a water-based coat.” Google voila, this is my advice to you is to use an oil based not water based polyurethane.

Coating.Ahhh! This step is so satisfying. I Used a big brush for that to make sure That I’m covering all the areas.

Final work.After finishing the table, I didn’t had to sand the whole thing again. Just a little section where Was lots of scratches before I resend it to smooth it as possible As I could. How it looks so far?
