Add These 10 Greens to Your Diet and Watch What Happens to Your Bones, Fatigue and WAISTLINE

  1. Radish Greens: Radish leaves contain so much vitamin C and beta carotene that consuming just one cup of these leaves is enough to meet the daily requirements for the above mentioned nutrients. They also are one of the richest sources of calcium, and can be added to salads and stews, for an enhanced taste.
  2. Carrot Greens. Carrot top leaves are packed with potassium, chlorophyll, and other nutrients, so you cannot go wrong in including them in your diet. Some may be sensitive to these leaves (as they contain alkaloids and nitrates, they are only harmful if you eat gallons in one sitting! You can use carrot greens as a garnish, a salad ingredient, or as a puree instead of spinach.
  3. Agathi greens.Sesbania grandiflora is believed to be named after the Vedic sage, Agastya and is hailed as a wonder herb for women’s intimate problems. Agathi leaves taste bitter and tart, which can be tackled if you cook it with coconut milk. Agathi flowers are also edible, if you like crunchy… otherwise, it is best to steam or pressure cook them.
  4. Kale: Kale has lutein, an antioxidant that strengthens eyesight, along with beta-carotene and vitamin C. It also has sulforaphane, a photo nutrientwith cancer-fighting properties. Though you can add them raw in your salad, the best way to enjoy this bitter leafy green is to steam or sauté it.
  5. Lettuce: Finally, we come to the humble lettuce, which is not so humble after all, given that it contains Vitamin K and manganese, a mineral necessary for proper carbohydrate and protein metabolism. Even though it is a plant belonging to the sunflower family, lettuce is exclusively used a leafy green. It adds the much needed moisture and crunchiness in a salad, and a cup of leaves will add only 7 extra calories in your diet!

While the above-mentioned greens are safe to eat any time of your life, it is advisable not to eat the same green for two consecutive days. The greens have a defense mechanism which triggers an allergy reaction in the human body, if you consume the same green continuously.So it is better to eat a different one every day, which also keep your taste buds happy!
