Zippy Skippy! I’m Making These Spicy Sausage Squares This Weekend For Sure!

Once a month at work our boss lets us do a company brunch in the break room. We all get together and discuss the happenings of the job and any issues that we are dealing with. It’s really great for morale in the office. Everyone always brings a dish to pass so it doesn’t cost the business anything. I think that may be why he so agreeable to letting us do it. No profits lost or money spent. We don’t mind bringing something in though, as long as we get to keep having the meetings. Some of the ladies and even the guys really know how to cook! There have been some great recipes that have come through there.

Evan from accounting actually surprised everyone last month when he brought in these spicy sausage squares. I think he made a double batch because there were a lot of them. By the end of the gathering, they had been cleaned right out and not a crumb was left on the plate.

I was asking him about where he got the recipe and he said he found it online on Relative Taste. As soon as I got home I looked it up and printed it out. I have made these at least once a week since. The whole family loves them!

Are you going to be in a rush in the morning? This is one of those make ahead and store in the fridge dishes that we love so much. I will often get this all assembled and then put it to rest in the fridge overnight. In the morning, all I have to do is preheat the oven and pop them in. I can continue getting ready or doing whatever else that has to be done while they are baking. Breakfast is done by the time the kids and hubby get up and I’m not already exhausted from overworking myself. These store nicely in the fridge too if you have leftovers. A few seconds in the microwave and they taste fresh again.

Ingredients

1 pound Johnsonville hot sausage

1 (8 ounce) package Philadelphia cream cheese

½ cup water

2 (8 ounce) packages of Pillsbury crescent rolls

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 °F.

In a skillet, cook sausage and crumble into small pieces. When it is cooked through, drain excess grease and add cream cheese and water until the cream cheese has melted. The purpose of the water is to thin down the mixture.

Spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray. Roll out one of the packages of crescent rolls in the bottom of the baking dish to make a crust. Spoon the sausage mixture on top of the crescent rolls. Roll out the other package of crescent rolls and place on the top as a crust.

Bake until the top is golden brown, about 25-30 minutes. Cut into squares to serve.
