Our house was built in 1999 and the style was all the hardware in gold color. But I was not going to replace the more than 20 knobs to the rubbed bronze color! nor was I going to remove them all and spray paint them. I tested with one by painting it in place. It worked!

These are the knobs all over my house. First thing I did was clean it really well with alcohol.

I mixed a dark brown acrylic paint in satin finish with some espresso metallic and added a little black. That gave me the color I wanted.
