The picture above was taken in my entry way. There is a lot of foot traffic going through this area and you can see the wear and dark stains in the first picture.
After I used the DIY carpet cleaner and vacuumed, the bottom picture shows what my entry way looks like now. It looks so much better!! So how do you make this miracle DIY carpet cleaner?
DIY Carpet Cleaner Solution Recipe
- 1 Tablespoon of clear dish soap ( I used Seventh Generation)
- 1 Tablespoon white vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons of Hydrogen Peroxide
- 2 cups of warm water
Combine all of the ingredients into a spray bottle and mix it around. Use right away, I don’t know how effective this will be if it sits around for a few days.
I vacuumed my carpets first then sprayed the cleaner on all of the stains and dark spots. I let it sit for a few minutes and scrubbed with a white cloth.
I let it dry and then vacuumed again and it looks fantastic. I will advise to clean a small spot first just to make sure it doesn’t do anything funky with your carpets.
I had some dog vomit stains in my bedroom, don’t ask! I tried several different cleaners and nothing seemed to work. This miracle DIY carpet cleaner got the stains out on the first try!!
Can you tell that I am in love with this stuff? You can see the results in the picture above. I took the pictures at different times of the day so the lighting is a little different but you can tell that the stains are gone!
Your carpet will smell a little like vinegar when you apply the cleaner but the smell goes away as soon as it is dry. I will be using this to clean all of my carpet stains from now on.
This will save me a lot of money on carpet cleaner!
Homemade Carpet Cleaner for Machines
I have actually used this same recipe in my carpet shampoo machine. It will depend on how big your tank is but I add the ingredients right into the water tank:
- 1/4 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide
- 2 Tbs. of white vinegar
- 1 Tbs. of clear dish soap
I then just fill the tank up to the indicated line with warm water and change the machine from “Clean” to “Rinse.” It works great every single time.
Your carpet machine may be different than mine so adjust the measurements accordingly.
Let me know if this miracle DIY carpet cleaner works for you!
