Erika painted one complete coat of paint onto the dresser. Then she used a light grade sandpaper to smooth down the finish. She applied a second coat of paint after it had been sanded.

Erika decided to use one of our popular furniture stencils for this fun project. She selected the medium Otomi Craft Stencil. This pretty pattern was inspired by traditional Mexican tribal textiles. With the stencil pattern in hand Erika was ready for the fun part, ! She sprayed the back of the stencil with Sticky Note spray adhesive which can be purchased from your local craft store or Amazon. Repositionable spray adhesive can help hold the stencil in place and reduce bleed.
She poured white chalk paint into a small tray and then rolled a two inch dense foam roller into the paint. She made sure she rolled off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed.
Then she painted the entire pattern on to the dresser.
Once the entire design was painted, Erika lifted the stencil back to reveal the pattern.
It was looking better already! Erika had centered the pattern on the dresser so she needed to finish it off to the edge on each side. She used painter’s tape along the edge to ensure that paint stayed on the drawer fronts. Erika lined up the stencil.
She painted the pattern to finish off the side.
Erika repeated the Otomi pattern until the entire front of the dresser was stenciled.
She painted in the knobs in Modern Master’s burnt orange metallic paint and then placed them back onto the dresser.
There you go! All it took was some paint and our Otomi Craft Stencil to transform the plain Ikea Rast dresser into this boho chic piece of furniture.
