A day has been chosen when women wear no bras, and it is October 13th! This day is in fact called National No Bra Day, and it has been invented by breast cancer awareness promoters in order to help raise money for research.
On this day, numerous women wear no bras in order to bring enough attention to the cause. Nevertheless, apart from it, it seems that wearing a bra has harmful effects on our breasts in fact.
The aim of bras is to control and keep women breasts “in place”, and it is very helpful for those women with large breasts.It’s hard to move around when every move that you make is emphasized by your breasts’ corresponding movements.
Yet, a sport science researcher, Jean-Denis Rouillion, who is a professor at the University of Franche-Comte in the town of Besancon conducted a 15- year study on the effects of bras. His study included 330 women between the ages of 18-35 years. His findings were devastating, to be true: he found that wearing a bra from early age did nothing to support the chest, reduce back pain or prevent premature sagging.
“Medically, physiologically, anatomically, breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra.” – he adds. Namely, those women who stopped wearing bras during this study had a 7-millimeter lift in their nipples when compared to a regular bra user.
Moreover, scientists now state that we lack a development of supporting breast tissue when we wear a bra and that without one, we would gain more tone to support our breasts. “For younger women, not wearing a bra will lead to increased collagen production and elasticity, which improves lift in a developing breast,” said Dr. Stafford Broumand.
Researchers also claim that bras could also hamper circulation and reduce the overall tone of our breasts.
Nevertheless, bras are an important article of clothing used to cover us up more thoroughly and they are worn for reasons other than reducing the sag of their breasts. In most cases, bras are used in order to prevent our breasts from moving around and distracting those around us, but it turned out that they harm our body, so we should consider eliminating them.
