Back in 2013, the Center for Environmental Health releases results that showed Pepsi intentionally covered up the presence of cancer-causing chemicals in their popular soft drinks.
Ever since, Pepsi has been battling the charge…but a new settlement shows they’re finally admitting the charge was accurate all along.
In particular, California has pushed to make Pepsi label their drinks with a cancer warning as a result of the inclusion of the chemical compound 4-Methylimidazole, a caramel coloring agent and known carcinogen.
As part of a recent settlement in California, Pepsi has finally admitted that not only did they fail to warn customers, but they knew that 4-Mel was a carcinogen and was in their drinks.
As a result of the settlement, Pepsi is also agreeing to regularly test their sodas, and ensure that in the future 4-Mel levels do not exceed 100 parts per billion.
