Set the drain tile in place. We added several inches of gravel for drainage.
We wanted a heartier mix of soil for our towers so we added black dirt and manure to potting soil.
After lining the tower with an old piece of tarp we filled the tower with the mixed soil. We packed the dirt slightly to minimize settling.
To plant the petunias we cut a horizontal slit and a vertical slit to form an upside down T. We used the knife to poke a hole in the drain tile for watering each plant as well.
Not much to look at when you finish. The petunias grow fast and filled in the gaps quickly. Add water to the drain tile every 3-4 days and your tower stays well hydrated.
That’s better. Now it looks great and is a colorful addition to the patio.
