Cleaning Stovetop Grills and Grates With Ammonia

I put a stove burner grill in a Ziploc bag and sealed it with 1/4 cup of ammonia for 12 hours. This is a very smelly procedure that is best implemented outdoors, but apartment dwellers as myself do not have that luxury so just make sure that you seal the bags securely and you’ll be fine.

After 12 hours, the dirt wipes right off with a paper towel, resulting in brand new grills and grates! Is that amazing or what? Take care to dispose of the ammonia and bags quickly so as not to fill your home with noxious fumes. Using gloves, I wiped off the grease and rinsed them in hot water, cleaning them as usual with cleanser. (Do not mix ammonia with any other cleaning product. It’s dangerous.)
